My iron conked out last night and I can't find the one I use for workshops so I was going to have to walk to Bed, Bath and Beyond (since we don't have a Walmart and the closest Target is in New Jersey). But I was able to borrow one from a friend for a few days until I'm in the neighborhood. I've been going through a box of scraps and cutting them into strips and squares and some of them needed ironing. Actually I was taking a break from putting borders on Judy Laquidara's Peaches and Dreams quilt which I took in a class along with Jamie in LA last month. I'm on border 6 and there are 8 borders. It's a neat quilt and I did it in my favorite color - orange. But I wanted to play with some other fabric.
Sort of a typical day today, woke up about 8 am, ate breakfast, showered, dressed then sat at my sewing machine cutting up fabric. Walked over to the close (that's what they call the campus), looked at all the beautiful flowers and trees, met my DH for lunch in the refectory (dining room), got the mail (got an order from Stitch-N-Frame with some beautiful Fairy Frost fabrics on sale), walked home, checked email, took a nap, ate a sandwich for dinner and left for Schola (choir) back on the close. Walked home at 9:30 and am writing this. Now for a snack and to bed with a good book, Killer Cuts by Elaine Viets. Kinda lonely since DH is in charge of the women's shelter tonight. The seminary students volunteer to oversee the homeless women's shelter. All of the women are employed and this gives them a safe place to stay until they can save enough for an apartment of their own. They can have a meal, wash their clothes, shower and sleep safely.

First Post

Hello quilters, family and friends. This is my first post in my adventure into 'blogland.' I wouldn't have made it this far if not for the efforts of my good friend Jamie of http://www.babyboomerquiltingbee.blogspot.com/. I have been living in NYC since Aug'09 where my husband has been enrolled in seminary and we will be here for 3 years. We moved here from LA where we had lived for 12 years and I miss all my quilting friends, pokino group and church members. We sold our 3-bedroom house with 2-car garage and both cars and are now living in a less than 400-sq ft apartment. But we are right across the street from the school so there's a very short commute for my husband. My sewing table is near a window which looks across to the street and seminary. When the weather is nice I have my window open a little and can hear the chimes for the different services, the chatter of the kids in daycare as they line up holding hands to walk across the street to the playground and I can see the trees leafing out and all the lovely grounds of the seminary. All of which prompted me to title my blog A View from My Window. This blog is also an attempt to better keep in touch with family and friends since I'm not very good at keeping up with my email or Facebook page. So I'll be talking about my daily life, thoughts, quilting, and my life in the Big Apple.
